Eau Palm Beach & Spa Resort, a Forbes five-star hotel in Manalapan, Florida, is situated along the North Atlantic coast, making it vulnerable to coastal storm surges and increasingly frequent king tide flooding. Tired of dealing with costly flood damage repairs, high insurance premiums, and the challenges of temporary flood protection measures, the resort sought a permanent solution. FloodBreak provided a custom-designed, automatic floodgate measuring 67 feet by 2 feet 7 inches to protect the resort’s loading dock. Installed in August 2023, the floodgate has already proven its value, successfully deploying in 2024.

Background

Eau Palm Beach & Spa Resort is located in Manalapan, Florida, an exclusive coastal town in Palm Beach County. As a Forbes-five star rated hotel, Eau Palm Beach Resort is a prime destination in Florida. Located along the North Atlantic Ocean coast, this beachfront property is vulnerable to coastal storm surge during major events and king tide flooding, which continues to increase in frequency. Tired of costly flood damage repair, insurance costs & using temporary flood protection devices that require personnel to operate, it was time to find a permanent flood mitigation solution.

Solution

FloodBreak designed a custom 67′ x 2′-7″ automatic floodgate to permanently protect the large loading dock that services the luxury resort. By incorporating a permanent flood mitigation that does not require any human intervention or power to deploy will bring 24/7 peace of mind for the Eau Palm Beach resort staff and guests. Whether the flooding is from tidal flooding or storm surge, the hydrostatic pressure of the water will automatically lift the gate up into deployment position.

The FloodBreak automatic flood barrier is extremely durable and designed to support HS-25 AASHTO loading, an important consideration due to the heavy loads and traffic from the daily operations.

Results

Installed in August of 2023, the resort experienced back to back floods in September & October, then again in February 2024. Their investment in a FloodBreak fully passive flood gate has proven to save time, money, and resources for this customer.
