The proximity of Wagon Wheel to the Santa Clara River poses a flood risk, particularly from sudden flash flooding triggered by storms or rapid river level changes. Given the area’s history and potential for severe weather events, flood protection measures were deemed essential to ensure the safety and resilience of the community. The primary flood vulnerability was identified at the roadway entrance to the community, necessitating a robust flood defense solution.
To address the flood risk, the Wagon Wheel community opted for the installation of FloodBreak automatic floodgates. FloodBreak offers a versatile design capable of protecting larger openings without compromising performance, making it an ideal choice for the community’s needs.
The installed floodgate measures approx. 84 feet by 9 feet, providing substantial coverage and protection for the vulnerable roadway entrance. This large barrier is engineered to withstand the forces exerted by flash floods and ensure the safety of the residents and infrastructure within the community. Additionally, the optional hydraulic lift system has provided the community with the flexibility to manually activate the gate when necessary, further enhancing the security and preparedness of the neighborhood.
Since its installation in 2022, the 84′ x 9′ FloodBreak floodgate has successfully protected the Wagon Wheel community from potential flood events. The floodgate’s ability to deploy automatically without the need for power or human intervention has proven to be a reliable and effective solution.
The successful implementation of the floodgate has had several positive impacts on the Wagon Wheel community:
