Flooding is unpredictable in its impact and location. In Maricopa County, Arizona needed a solution to protect a residential community from unique flash flooding conditions from a local arroyo. It might be a surprise that flood protection would be needed in a desert region, but Arizona’s challenge to protect their communities and keep the water in the arroyo proves otherwise. Flash floods cannot be predicted and can come at any time, day or night. FloodBreak’s passive, automatic flood gates have recently been installed, and we are excited to continue to provide innovative flood protection in all regions.
The floodgates are completely passive and will deploy automatically as the water level rises. This specific project incorporated our optional pushbutton hydraulic lift feature. With the lift system installed, the city can close the flood gates ahead of time when weather predictions indicate flood warnings and standard operating procedures call for deployment. And yet, if for any reason the flood comes as a surprise or power fails as flooding approaches, the performance of the vehicular flood gates is not affected – they will still rise automatically with no intervention required.
